About Us

Meet Your Hosts: Susanne & Dennis Young

Hi! We’re Susanne and Dennis Young, your hosts at Sunset House and enthusiastic explorers of both Kelowna and the world beyond.

When we’re not welcoming guests, we’re out sailing on Okanagan Lake, where Susanne races competitively on several teams while Dennis enjoys a relaxed cruise. You’ll also find Dennis on the golf course at Black Mountain, both as a passionate golfer and a course marshal.

We’re always seeking new adventures, whether it’s hiking the trails right in our backyard at Black Mountain Regional Park, cycling the Rail Trail to Vernon, or e-biking through Myra Canyon’s breathtaking trestles. In winter, we trade our bikes for skis, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing in the mountains, or skating downtown at Stuart Park—one of our favorite cold-weather traditions.

Travel has always been a big part of our lives. We’ve explored Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and Europe, experiencing everything from hiking through the Alps, sailing tropical waters, and dogsledding in the Yukon to wandering historic cities. This fall, we’re heading to Cinque Terre, Tuscany, and the Dolomites to continue our love of hiking, culture, and incredible landscapes.

Kelowna offers a fantastic blend of outdoor adventure, music, and world-class wineries, and we’ve carefully curated a guidebook filled with our top recommendations to help guests experience the very best of the area.
